Tower Card Pictorial

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by and for all your wonderful comments. I'm honored to have you here and I truly appreciate each of you more than you know!

After posting my tower card earlier this week Kate asked how they are made.  So, while I tried to explain in a reply to her comment, it's much easier to see visibly.  By its nature the post is image heavy, so sit back and enjoy!

The card can be made in a number of sizes, but all mine fit into a 5" x 7" envelope.  So begin life as a 7" x 9" card, which is then scored on the long side at 1", 2", 3", 6", 7" and 8"...

Fold both the 2" and 7" lines back.  You can also fold all others forward at this point, but for ease of photography I left that until later...

Using a ruler and pencil, mark each side every 1/2".  You can use a stylus to do this, but using a pencil makes cutting with scissors easier...

Mark the cut lines to the center (3" and 6") scorelines...

Keeping the sides under, cut all lines through both layers of card to the center scores...

It was at this point which I burnished the other lines, and this is what it will look like opened up...

Erase the pencil lines and carefully push alternating cuts to the back.  It doesn't matter whether the bottom is in or out because it will stand both ways...

View from above to show the towers which give the style its name...

The card can now be decorated as desired.  Although I've not added a solid layer to the center, the offcut piece is perfect to use for this or another such card...

Cascading Butterfly Tower Twofer

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by and for all your wonderful comments. I'm honored to have you here and I truly appreciate each of you more than you know!

Tower cards are very popular right now, so during last weekend's rare venture to my craft desk, I had to give them a try.   The style is so easy and versatile and I can see me creating a lot of them.

Both cards are pretty much mirror images of each other using one of my favorite die sets and I love them both, but have you got a favorite?

Card: Unbranded white and SU's Peekaboo Peach (yep, I wrongly said it was Perfect Peach last week... oops!)
Tools and embellishments: Sue Wilson for CE Cascading Butterflies and CE pearls

MHKDesigns Majestic Medallion

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by and for all your comments.  I treasure each and every one of you.

The card I'm sharing today is the one I had scheduled for my regular MHKDesigns Designer Inspiration spot, and although the stamp set is not available, I wanted to show you.

This was my first attempt at changing the color of the sentiment, so it's inadvertently a little greener than intended, but still, not bad for a first attempt!

Card: Unbranded white and SU's So Saffron
Dies and embellishments: Sue Wilson for Creative Expressions Pacific Ocean Border and Corners, and St. Kitts from the Caribbean Collection, and pearls from my stash

Thank You Mynn Blog Hop

Hi everyone,

It's the first of the month which would usually mean it's time for a new challenge at MHKDesigns, and also for a new set release.  But sadly, Mynn, the very talented owner of MHKDesigns and card creating genius, has made the very tough decision to close the blog (the Etsy store will remain open for the time being at least, but nothing new will be added to it) to focus on what's important to her, her life as a teacher.

The news came as quite a shock to myself and the other DT members, but it's a decision we totally support.  And because most of us already had our cards created for today, we've decided to instead make it a blog hop to say thank you to Mynn for all she's done for us.  The hop order is further down the post, but first I'd like to share a little of what Mynn means to me...

I've known her for years after initially coming across her other challenge blog, House of Cards, (which I've now been on the DT for for 3 years), and she is one of my closest friends.  She really is remarkable, and although she apologized profusely for the news coming just months into my first term with MHKDesigns, there really was no need for her to so.  Because, as I've said, she's had my back for years, and now it's time for me to support her in the way she has always supported me.

Mynn, I really cannot thank you enough!

Here's what would have been our inspiration photo for this month...

And here's my card, created using the digi set Majestic Medalions which unfortunately won't be added to the store...

MHK Designs Digi Stamp set: Majestic Medalions colored with Spectrum Noir markers
Tools and embellishments: Sue Wilson's Sydney from the Australian Collection, and Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen

Before we get to the hop, it would be remiss of me, as the "last" member of the DT, to not mention all who have gone before me... Alicia, Asmah, Donna, Jerrie, Katie, Lilian, Lorie, Michele, Monica, NanaConnie, and Tasha... all of whom helped make MHKDesigns what it was... bursting with talent!

Hop order...

Em (you are here)
Mynn (not posting)

I'll be back soon with another creation, so I hope you'll join me then.
