Thinking of you

Hi everyone,

For the January Giveaway please click HERE.

Today's card is a very special, very personal to me. Today is my guardian angel, my Granddad's birthday and this card is for my Grandmother.

I'm entering the card at...
Hiding In My Craft Room #134 For a loved one
DL.ART January Linky Party

I'm mindful that today also marks the 28th anniversary of the Challenger disaster, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friend of the crew, Francis Scobee, Michael J Smith, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik, Greg Jarvis and Christa McAuliffe, and indeed all who worked for NASA on the mission. God bless them all.

White on white birthday

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by, it's great to see you. The card I'm sharing today is another white on white card, this time for a birthday and in the double waterfall style. This is the first card I created using the Tonic Studios Daisy Border 2 punch, which only arrived in the mail a few hours before the card was made. A little unbelievably, this is my first such punch and I'm wondering what took me so long? It's so easy to use and yep, I love it. :)

I added some hand embossed flowers, which I made using one of the Crafter's Companion board, Springtime Sweets and Cupcake Treats. The card was then completed using a small die cut and peel off sentiment and the only hint of color, the pale blue gems.

I'll be entering the card into the latest Hiding In My Craft Room challenge, #133 - Clean and Simple

In my next post I hope to be able to share some good news with you.

Hugs,
Em

Fan~tastic

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by. Today I'm sharing some more of the cards I created with the same kit I showed you in last Friday's post Hidden gem. In that post, I didn't include the name of the kit, because I couldn't remember it. It's a member's gift from Hunkydory Crafts and is the Dragonfly Dance collection, but is unfortunately no longer available.

I created the cards for three very beautiful ladies, my sister Gayle and nieces Nicole and Megan and they were sent for Nicole's birthday, arriving right on time on her special day. The only extras I used from my stash are the holographic silver card and the gems I added. I love them all and I'm very happy to say the girls all did too :)

Tomorrow, I'm expecting delivery of some new crafting goodies, so in my next post, I'll share some of the creations I can already see in my mind.

Hugs,
Em

Hidden gem

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by. The card I'm sharing with you today is one of the first that I've created this year. The toppers and papers are from a Hunkydory Crafts Club member's gift from late last year. I love the kit and the number of cards that can be created from it is amazing. I'll share more with you soon.

The style of the card is new-to-me and I want to thank Christina at Card Making Magic for teaching me and others, so much. Christina has a lot of tutorials on the website and on her blog, Flowers Ribbons and Pearls. This particular card is a Crossover Card and is really easy to create.

After creating the base card following the tutorial, making mine 5 and 3/4 inches square, I cut a 5.5" square from the pink swirly paper and then cut this on the diagonal adding it to the card using double sided tape. The circle topper has foam dimensionals on one side to raise it. The flowers have also been added using dimensionals. The dragonfly just has a dab of wet glue on the head and the tail and wings have been gently bent upward to give some shape and the illusion of flight.

For the inside of the card, I cut another square of the paper, this time to a 5 and 5/8" square, which leaves a small border around the edge. The topper has been added using a wet glue.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hugs,
Em

Belated Monday Musings

Hi everyone,

When I wrote my last post, 2013 ~ A year in review, I had intended today's post to be a follow up. However while thinking about the content for this one, I've decided to forego that and as a result, I have edited the original post, which if you missed it, can be read here (it will open in a new tab when clicked, like all other links on the blog).

Instead, I've decided that this post will not really be a look back, but rather a look forward, so I'm adding this to the Monday Musings series, a belated posting. If you'd like to you can take a look at all the other posts in the series, please do so.

Just before writing this post, I was reminded of a heroic act that happened five years ago today. On January 15, 2009, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, brought US Airways flight 1549 down safely in the freezing Hudson River in New York. All 155 people on board survived. Sully's speed of thought and composure following the bird strike just after takeoff, was quite rightly termed "Miracle on the Hudson".

It hardly seems possible that five years have passed since that day. I'm sure that everyone associated with that short lived flight will, forever be thankful that it was Sully flying their airplane that day. I wasn't even on the flight, nor associated in anyway with it, but that doesn't stop ME being thankful for his actions.

In bringing this post to a close, I want to thank not only our military and our emergency services, who themselves helped ensure no lives were lost that day, but also all in public service roles, the pilots and all who, by doing their job, help keep us safe.

Hugs,
Em

2013 ~ A year in review part 1

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by today. I know we're already very nearly half way through January, EEK, but before we get even deeper into this "new" year, I wanted to revisit some of my favorite posts from 2013. I hope you enjoy looking back as much as I have. To see the original post, you can either click the linked name of the post or the pics.

My first creative post here on the new site was Pretty minis. Each of the cards created and showcased in the post are only 3"x3" square and are are great way to use up some of the many, many crafty "scraps" that are left when creating bigger cards.

Another post in which I shared more of these cuties was More minis. They are all SO cute and I'll be creating more of these babies soon :)

Another favorite design style for me last year and another that I'll be doing a lot more of this, is white on white. The first card in this style that I shared with you was the Lace butterfly white on white.

I LOVE the simple beauty of this style and it wasn't long before I shared another very similar creation with you in More lovely lace. For this one I changed it up a little by adding some subtly colored gems.

I'd love to know what you think, so please leave a comment, either on this post, or on the originals. Thank you!

Hugs,
Em

Happy New Year

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get this first post of the year written, and also that it's been so long since my last post. I truly hadn't realized how long it had been and I'm so sorry!

I hope you've all had a great start to 2014 and that it will continue to be so for each of you. For me last Christmas was my best ever. It had been a tough year, but the last couple of weeks of 2013 gave me hope that this year will be my best yet. I've been blessed in so many ways, but I hope you'll forgive me if I don't share much about those blessings here in this post. I promise I will share them with you soon!

I've not been very good at keeping up with the blog, life has gotten in the way somewhat, but from now on, I PROMISE to post at least a couple of times a week, and hopefully more as things settle down. Not all the posts will be craft related, and I'll return again to the Monday Musings series, but I WILL be posting!

The weather everywhere is very extreme and has been for awhile, but I did manage to get out for a walk between Christmas and New Year. The photo below is one that I took that day, it's of the ruins of a church in Chester, UK, that dates from the ninth century! I love the contrast of the red sandstone against a rare blue sky and can't wait until we get another dry day so I can go out again.

I'll share more images from the day with y'all in a future post too, so please do stop by. Thanks again for your patience with me as I find my bloggy feet once more. Please stay warm and safe until the weather improves.

Hugs,
Em
